Heavy Security Presence in Port Harcourt Amid #October1 Protest

Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, saw a strong security presence on Tuesday as tension rose due to the planned #October1Fearless protest. This protest follows the earlier #EndBadGovernance protests in August, where youths demonstrated in various states across the country.

Large groups of youths, suspected to be against the protest, gathered at the Federal Secretariat and Pleasure Park — the same locations where protests had taken place in August. Though they were not actively protesting, the increase in their numbers led to more security personnel being deployed.

Officers from the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Civil Defence, and other security agencies were seen patrolling the city.

Despite the noticeable security, businesses continued as usual, with people moving freely and no reports of violence or unrest at the time of this report.
