Cross River State Governor Reverses Clerk Appointment, Names Ubi as Replacement

Cross River State Governor, His Excellency Senator (Prince) Bassey Edet Otu, has withdrawn the appointment of Mr. Patrick Edi as the Clerk of the House of Assembly.

The decision was communicated to the House of Assembly in a letter dated March 18, 2024, from Governor Bassey Otu, conveyed through the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan Enoh. Speaker Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem read the letter on the floor of the House of Assembly on March 19, 2024.

The SSG’s letter cited the absence of a critical criterion for seniority in the recommendations for Patrick Edi’s appointment. Despite being employed before Mrs. Catherine Ubi, her earlier promotion to Director gave her seniority over Edi, making her the more suitable candidate for the position of Clerk. Consequently, Barr. Catherine Ubi has been appointed as the substantive Clerk of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
