The Popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele and her husband Abdul Rasheed Bello aka JJC Skills who were arrested for violating the state government order and directives on social distancing has pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of violating the State government order. The Lagos state government order on social distancing and lock down was a means of containing the Coronavirus pandemic. Hence, the need to adhere to it strictly.
The said Lagos State Government regulations, prescribes a jail term of one month or one hundred thousand naira only or both persons found guilty of hosting such gatherings or flouting the lockdown order. There also is a clause that see offenders pay up to N200, 000.
Funke Akindele, who is the producer of the popular movie ‘Jennifer’s Diary’ and her husband Abdul Rasheed Bello were arraigned before a magistrate court in Lagos. They were both charged for breaching the Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020.
Based on the standing order, the court today has sentenced Funke Akindele to 14 day community service, the sum of One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100, 000) and 15 days isolation.
Funke Akindele, being attacked by various twitter users for the action she took, in a video had long tendered an apology. That notwithstanding, her apologies did not sooth the mind of the public who hold her in high esteem given her societal portfolio.
