The Cross River State Commission for Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah has said that having a quiet environment is not a reason for Cross Riverians to be carefree.
The commissioner said this on Thurday during a courtesy visit by delegates from FAD 93.1 FM Calabar in his office in Calabar.
The commissioner revealed that hoodlums might only be lying low and scheming others ways to carry out their plans. He called on broadcast media and cross revierians to be carefull and to report every suspicious activity before it escalates.
“If you say crime has reduced, it does not mean that the criminals have surrender or gone to sleep. They might be thinking that if this way is blocked, how do we?. So, it is for you on the information to be on the lookout, don’t relax. Inform the nearest security agency of any suspected threat before it escalates. Having a quiet environment for now is not a reason for us to be carefree”
Grimah also revealed that he always ask for God’s direction before carrying out any assignment and cannot so cannot say the peaceful state of Cross River is by his own strength.
“Let me tell you the truth if I tell you I am in charge of whatever is going on here or not going on here, I will only be telling you lies because I know the invisible and the Almighty is the one in charge. Whatever I do if don’t have time to pray I will ask others to pray for direction.” He said.
The Commissioner further added that when the fear of God and the empthy for fellow human being motivates him to stand up for others.
“When we do our own thing with the fear of God, it means we have a living conscience inside us and at that point what pains you will pain me, what is not good for you is not good for me. Even if it is not affecting me directly, I put myself in your shoes. If the pain you are feeling I am also feeling it not physically but psychologically I will be forced to stand up and do something about it.
“We also want to inform you officially that we have a complaint Response Unit newly established under the directive of the IG to serve you. Policemen are not misbehaving as before again, but that does not mean that there are not some that are still mibehaving. We want a system that will be ideally Ideal enough. We have a complaint Response Unit newly established under the directive of the IG. If you have any complaints against any policeman you can complain to the unit but make sure you are available when you are called upon.”
“If you have good policemen in Calabar today, it is only a reflection of how good the people living in Calabar are”
“Anti-cultism are policemen and should be approacable, they will even improve with time.”
“Thank you for coming and feel free to send us information. we need information. We should always be together” He added.
