Zone 6 detectives arrests phone snatchers, receivers and fraudsters

ZONE 6 PRESS RELEASE

On the 19th of July 2023, men of the Zonal CID, following credible intelligence, accosted one Effiong Effiong Eneobong ‘m’ aged 23 years, Emmanuel Charles Charles ‘m’ aged 19 years, Samuel Ime Henry ‘m’ aged 18 years, Peter Cletus James ‘m’, aged 20 years and David Elvis Okpo-Abasi ‘m’ aged 26 years all of Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State; a syndicate of Tricycle riders who specialize in snatching and robbing their passengers of their phones and other valuables. Five (5) tricycles with registration numbers; CAL 608 VC, CAL 180 VC, ANA 607 WR, CAL 862 DC and MOT/CLS/TRV/96926 were recovered from them. The suspects on interrogation confessed to the offence and led the team to their cohorts and receivers.

On the 20th July, 2023, the team led by CSP Uzoh Richard of the Zonal CID arrested one Rebecca Friday Oko ‘f’ aged 23 years and Kingsley Mathias Joekim ‘m’ aged 25 years, all of No. 40 Goldie Street, Calabar, who specialize on internet fraud by searching their victims’ phones to get bank details with which they defraud them of their monies in connivance with the tricycle riders before selling the phones to their ready buyers.
On the 22nd July, 2023, the team arrested one Joel Joseph Francis ‘m’ aged 25 years, Desmond Dickson ‘m’ aged 15 years, Sandra Ada Innocent ‘f’, aged 42 years, Promise Uduak Brownson ‘m’ aged 17 years, Catherine Usen Udoh ‘f’ aged 30 years and Solomon Maurice Umoh ‘m’ aged 20 years all residing in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State for receiving stolen handsets.
The team executed search warrant in the shop of one Sandra Ada Innocent ‘f’ at No. 4 Open Shade, Etim Edem Street, Calabar and recovered 25 handsets of different varieties and recovered thirty-six (36) other handsets from the other suspects in the charge room. They all confessed to have snatched the handsets from their victims.

Discreet investigation into the case is ongoing and the suspects will be arraign in court at the end of investigation.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar.  AIG Jonathan Towuru, mni urges commuters and the peace loving people of the Zone to be on the watch out for phone snatchers and internet fraudstars who disguise as tricycle riders to defraud unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables. He equally calls on members of public to be security conscious and report criminals promptly to the Police.
