The U.S. Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, is set to visit Ukraine, Poland, and the United Kingdom from October 18 to 22, 2024. During her trip, she will engage in discussions focused on strengthening civilian security, providing humanitarian support, and reinforcing democratic resilience.

In Ukraine, Under Secretary Zeya will express the United States’ strong commitment to supporting Ukraine as it continues to face Russia’s ongoing aggression. She will meet with government officials, humanitarian workers, and civil society leaders to discuss U.S. support in various areas, including anti-corruption efforts, reforms in the rule of law, and maintaining a strong civil society and independent media. Zeya will also emphasize justice and accountability for the victims of the conflict and survivors of war crimes.

As part of her visit to Poland, Zeya will focus on the humanitarian impact of the war in Ukraine. She plans to meet with Ukrainian refugees who were forced to flee the conflict and are now receiving assistance in Poland. The Under Secretary will also meet with humanitarian organizations that are providing direct support to these vulnerable refugees. Additionally, she will visit a coordination center that helps manage aid for Ukraine.

In the United Kingdom, Zeya will work to deepen U.S.-U.K. cooperation on global challenges such as humanitarian efforts and human rights issues. She will meet with senior British officials, members of Parliament, and civil society organizations to discuss collaborations in areas like protections for trafficking survivors and LGBTQI+ rights. This leg of her trip highlights the importance of working together with international partners to tackle pressing global concerns.

This visit is part of ongoing U.S. efforts to strengthen partnerships in Europe, ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those affected by the war and supporting human rights protections in the region.
