This week, democracy in Malawi turned the corner – Goodluck Jonathan

There is a common saying that when the righteous reigns, the people rejoice. That joy was visible in Malawi during the inauguration of the her new President.

The former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in his congratulatory message to the new president of Malawi, His Excellency President Chakwera on his twitter hand on 30th June, 2020 stated that this week, democracy in Malawi turned the corner with the inauguration of the country’s new President, His Excellency President Chakwera historic victory over his predecessor, His Excellency Peter Mutharika, in a court-ordered a re-run.

“The peace that pervaded the period of the elections, court processes and the just concluded smooth transition is a huge endorsement for the growth of democracy in Africa. I congratulate him and the good people of Malawi for this significant milestone.” He added.

In response to the former Presidents twit, some Nigerians responded thus;

“You’re a hero and father of democracy in Africa. History and posterity will be very kind to you.”

Others also observed that it would be dignifying for other world leaders to say such glowing things about Nigerian elections, if only politicians and their minions who are holding the country hostage will give transparency a chance.
