There is nothing like new or old Nollywood – Zeb Ejiro (OON)

Veteran Nigerian film maker and producer, Zeb Ejiro (OON) who had his child hood days in Fernanda Po in Equitorial Guinea now called Malabo have stated that his love for film making began while he was young boy.

According to him, as a growing child, he watched all kinds of movies; action movies, India and anything that caught his fancy.

He further gave his mother the credit for always taking him and his siblings to the cinema.

The renowned filmmaker revealed this during a live interview on the Friday edition of the popular radio show “Serenade with the Boss Lady” on fad93.1 fm Calabar.

Zeb Ejiro (OON) also expressed his gratitude to the host of the show Mrs. Temitope Duker also known as Boss Lady for bringing him on the show.

He revealed that his two siblings are also into filmmaking.

When asked what he looks out for in a talent? The veteran film maker who has produced many stars revealed that he is more concerned with looking out for fresh talents who often times have never acted before. He went to explain that this was Irrespective of their tribe, language and even what they look like as far as they have talent and fit the character. “If you can act, then I am so happy to work with you” he added.

He further stated that there is something in everyone that can be developed and harnessed.

Ejiro who said he is from the the old block of Nollywood insisted there is no major difference between what is called old Nollywood or new Nollywood . However what bothers him is to hear people trying to divide the industry and as far as he is concerned Nollywood is Nollywood, Hollywood is Hollywood.

According to him The only difference is technology”. He also said Film making is film making” he concluded.

Although the film maker appreciates new technology, he mentioned that every movie maker must be a good researcher must explore new technologies and techniques.

The veteran film maker, Zeb Ejiro also stated that better stories were told in the early days of Nollywood than what is obtainable today. He also observed that even music today can not be compared with music of yesteryears.

He however commended the younger generation for their use of technology in their instrumentation.

Zeb Ejiro who is considered one of the founding fathers of most of nollywood associations and guilds was asked why he has been involved in their establishment, he revealed that the industry needs to be regulated and only a regulated industry can develop.

However, he also noted that the purpose of forming this associations and guilds has been defeated because for an individual to join an association, there must be some level of benefit for him or her but suddenly those expectations are not met.

When asked why a Domitilla sequel ? Are you reshooting the old story or a new story with the same title?
In his response, Zeb Ejiro stated that he is shooting “Domitilla The Sequel” but, wishes to keep the idea of the story confidential because he loves to keep his fans in suspense.

He however promised that “Domitilla the sequel” will be bigger than the previous” he made in 1997.

He revealed that the sequel will be in partnership with Filmone, Vision Media and Dioni productions owned by Omoni Oboli .

When asked how he will circumvent the challenges of COVID-19in the area of budget and planning as the pandemic lingers?

He insisted that before Domitila the Sequel campaign was ever put out for people to see, COVID-19 was factored in with expectations that the pandemic would have subsided by 2021.

However there are well laid out marketing strategies that will bring Domitilla the sequel to every Nigerian door step.

The veteran filmmaker also stated that the conferment of the Order Of Niger on him by the Chief Olusegun Obasnajo led administration has opened doors for him and also added much respect to him especially outside the country while he will also appreciate Nigerians and Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for the privileges the award has given him.

Finally, he also added that the original concept of Domitilla the sequel came from one of his students, reiterating that most of his students are really doing well in the movie industry.
