Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Inspects Erosion Sites in Calabar

Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, representing Cross River South Senatorial District, conducted a thorough inspection of the erosion sites in Nasarawa Community of 8 Miles, Calabar on Saturday. During the visit, the Senator assured the community that prompt assistance would be provided.

Addressing the concerns, Senator Ekpenyong stated, “Immediate action will be taken by engaging relevant federal agencies involved in erosion interventions to mitigate this growing problem.”

Expressing his worries over the continuous loss of lives and property caused by erosion, the Senator urged the responsible agencies to implement a comprehensive plan to tackle this issue effectively.

“I will also hold discussions with the state government to expedite action, as this has become a perilous situation, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and severe injuries,” he added.

Acknowledging the efforts of Governor Prince Bassey Otu, who previously visited gully erosion sites in Calabar, Senator Ekpenyong emphasized the need for collaboration to avert more significant losses.

During his tour, the Senator met with His Excellency, Dr Etubom Nya Eyoma Asuquo, the former Ambassador of Nigeria to Uganda and a landlord in the community. The Senator then received a comprehensive briefing and was guided by the community leader Bishop Victor Ebong on the inspections.
