Rev Otu flags off the outbreak response to circulating variant polio virus 2 (OBR) campaign

The Wife of the State Governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu, has flagged off the outbreak response to circulating variant polio virus 2 (OBR) campaign, organized by the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency (CRSPHCDA) in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health and other partners.

The campaign, which is scheduled to commence on the 16th through 19th September, 2023, will see the vaccination of children aged 0 months to 15 years, across the State.

In her opening remarks, the Wife of Governor, who was represented by the Special Adviser, Programs Projects and Events, office of Wife of Governor, Dr Inyang Asibong, urged parents of children under 15 years to take advantage of this vaccination campaign and protect their kids against this preventable disease.

Nigeria is one of the countries that has increased the age range for polio vaccination to 15 years. This was carried out in response to a recent outbreak of polio in the country, which affected both children and adults.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Henry Ayuk, and the Permanent Secretary of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency (CRSPHCDA), Dr Etim Ayi, took turns to aver that the State Government is unrelenting in its efforts to provide quality healthcare for children and pregnant women, especially because children are the future of the State.

This campaign is coming on the heels of the successful launch and implementation of the free medical outreach across the eighteen LGAs in the State organized by the office of Wife of Governor, signaling the high intent of the administration in ensuring the health and wellbeing of Cross Riverians.
