President Muhammadu Buhari Advise Nigerians to refrain from Panic and undue Alarm about Coronavirus

As a result of the situation report on the Covid-19 Outbreak in Nigeria, released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which states that major response activities have been carried out in order to curb the spread of the viral disease in the country. The response activities includes;

  1. The activation of a multi-sectorial emergency operation centre (EOC) at level 3 which is the highest level of response to public health emergencies.
  2. Lagos and Ogun State Ministries of Health have activated state-level Emergency Operations Centres.
  3. Two NCDC Rapid Response Teams were deployed to Lagos and Ogun State to the support response activities on 28th February.
  4. Ongoing risk communications campaign across the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari have stated that every citizen of Nigeria must desist from panic; because undue alarm according to him would cause more harm than good. The President advised that the only information citizens should pay attention to is the one being shared by the World Health Organisation (WHO), Federal & State Ministries of Health, and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC). He noted that listening to and adhering to false information would rather make citizens vulnerable.

The President’s advice is a notable one and will save citizens from the challenges of wrong measures of protecting themselves as was obtained in the year 2014 when the Ebola disease penetrated Nigeria. People got themselves involved in different and harmful preventive measures which was not prescribed by the Ministry of Health. Such measures included Bathing of salt water, drinking of salt water etc.

So many lives were lost as a result of that, others were hospitalized due to self-medication which is an abuse to the medical profession.

It is on this note that President Muhammadu Buhari has advised all Nigerians to adhere to the instructions and recommendations of the Federal Ministry of Health in order to stay healthy and avoid regrets.

Furthermore, President Muhammadu Buhari has also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Governments of Lagos & Ogun, and all other agencies, on their swift and quick response towards combatting the viral disease Corona virus. In his words, he said “I commend the excellent responses of the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria Center for Disease Control, Governments of Lagos & Ogun, and all other agencies, to the Coronavirus situation in Nigeria.”

The President further advised the citizens to adhere strictly especially citizen resident in Lagos state and its environs to the advice and instructions of the ministry of Health. He said “I urge all Nigerians to strictly observe all the advisories being disseminated.”

The coronavirus will never spread in Nigeria as the Ebola virus deed, the ministry of Health is seriously out to curb its spread and to ensure that citizens can live and freely carry out their day to day activities without fear of any kind.
