NYSC Explains Rules on Late Arrival to Orientation Camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has responded to concerns from some Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who arrived late and couldn’t register at their Orientation Camps.

This issue came up after reports of dissatisfaction among these PCMs during the ongoing 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 Orientation Course.

In a statement by Caroline Embu, the NYSC Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the organization reaffirmed its rules for mobilization and orientation programs.

The statement reminded PCMs that the policy is clearly outlined in the NYSC Act and in their Call-Up Letters. For this batch, the Call-Up Letters stated that registration would close at midnight on Thursday, August 29, 2024, and the Swearing-in Ceremony for those who completed registration would happen on Friday, August 30, 2024.

This information was shared with all PCMs to ensure they arrived on time.

However, in response to reports of late arrivals, the NYSC Management decided to extend the registration deadline to midnight on Friday, August 30, 2024, to accommodate those who faced unexpected delays.

Even with this extension, some PCMs were still unhappy and shared their frustrations on social media. The NYSC Director General visited some of the affected camps to address these concerns. He sympathized with the PCMs but emphasized the importance of following the rules, including arriving at camp on time.

Although the Director General understood their situation, he stressed that the NYSC must follow its rules. He also directed that those who missed the registration deadline be given temporary accommodation and meals before leaving the camps, showing the NYSC’s commitment to treating everyone with respect.

The Director General also assured these PCMs that they would be given another chance during the 2024 Batch ‘C’ mobilization. He encouraged all PCMs to follow the guidelines in the future to avoid such issues.
