NiMet Issues Warning for Three-Day Dusty Haze, Urges Caution for Asthma Patients

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted haziness and cloudiness across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday. NiMet has advised individuals with respiratory issues and others to be cautious of the weather conditions and to wear masks.

NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday in Abuja, predicts moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the northern and north-central states. It also expects patches of clouds over the inland of the South throughout the forecast period.

On Tuesday, NiMet anticipates moderate dust haze over the northern and north-central regions, with patches of clouds in a hazy atmosphere expected in some areas. In the south, isolated thunderstorms are forecasted over parts of several states during the afternoon and evening hours.

For Wednesday, NiMet expects a slight dust haze over the northern region and patches of cloud in a hazy atmosphere over the north-central region, except over some specific states where isolated thunderstorms are expected later in the day. In the south, patches of clouds are expected in the morning with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over several states later in the day.

NiMet has advised people with respiratory issues to wear face masks where possible and for children and the elderly to wear warm clothing at night. Airline operators were also advised to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
