The veteran actor and comedian John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu in a bit to emphasis the need for people who are advanced in certain areas of life to raise and mentor others, have mentioned that he has no sense, and practically doesn’t use the little one he has. And therefore cannot refuse to mentor others.
He made this known during an interview on serenade with the Bosslady, a popular radio show on fad93.1fm Calabar with Mrs. Temitope Duker.
The comedian cum actor went further to reveal that before he became a black belter in the karate game, he was beaten like a fool in his third karate competition. Despite his weight, karate is a game he loves and was trained by a professional who raised him up from the scratch in the game to the level of a black belter. He also stated that he usually ventured into things that seemed impossible in the game.
Although he is the first Karate Instructor in Nigerian Unity Schools, he has mentioned that he can’t go to fight again because he has passed the age for the competition.
The Veteran actor who has grown popular due to his comic roles further mentioned that anywhere you see him, you are seeing both of Mr. Ibu and John Okafor. According to him, Mr. Ibu naturally does not have sense, the way he walks is comic on its own. “It became my unique selling point, but when you talk of being handsome, don’t even come close to me” he added.
As an actor I expect you to be versatile, don’t you think you should play other roles and not only comic roles, Temitope Duker asked.
John Okafor stated that his interest after receiving a movie script given to him, is to give it a professional interpretation with the interest of making the people happy.
Yes I have, but the issue is that you who is watching and are familiar with my act will always think its comic not knowing it’s serious.
Do you have young people young people you are mentoring?
The renowned comic actor responded by saying that a lot of people keep coming to be mentored by him and he keep accepting them, so that they can learn and get impacted by him. He also added that a man who is blessed with ideas must learn not to be stingy with it ideas. As I am I don’t have sense, even the one I have I don’t use it, he added.
