Kalu Urges President Tinubu to Act Quickly on Economic Hardship

Former Governor of Abia State and current Senator for Abia North, Orji Kalu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the economic difficulties facing Nigerians without delay.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday at the National Assembly, Kalu highlighted the growing struggles caused by recent economic reforms.

Kalu acknowledged that removing the fuel subsidy was a bold step by Tinubu but stressed that its impact on ordinary Nigerians must be reconsidered. He said, “The hardship is real; people are suffering. Managing our workforce of about 10,000 people has become very challenging in these tough times.”

He shared that the high cost of maintaining a private jet, which ranges from $10,000 to $20,000 per trip, forced him to make changes. “I asked senior staff in my company to fly commercial to save money and support our workers,” he explained. “Everyone must be able to afford basic needs during this difficult period.”

While praising Tinubu’s courage in making economic reforms, Kalu urged for faster relief measures to ease the pain. “No president in the last 60 years has made such bold moves, but the suffering of Nigerians must be addressed now,” he said.

Kalu also suggested that the government might need to reconsider bringing back the fuel subsidy to provide relief to the public.

Additionally, Kalu cleared up rumors about his health, explaining that he had taken time off for academic reasons. He said, “I wasn’t sick. I was attending a course on democracy and the economy, not a medical check-up. If people thought I died, we thank God for life.
