The Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (IBAN) has chosen John Momoh, CEO of Channels TV, as the chairman of its board of trustees (BoT).
A statement on Tuesday said the BoT members were elected during the association’s emergency meeting on August 30.
Other members of the BoT include Osa Adun, Raymond Dokpesi, Ben Bruce, Godfrey Ohuabunwa, Ahmed Ramalan, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Tony Dara, Toun Okewale, and Tatiana Mousali.
IBAN also elected an executive council with Tijani Ramalan as chairman, Tony Dara as vice-chairman, Charles Daniels as general secretary, Kadaria Ahmed as treasurer, and Greg Odutayo as publicity secretary.
In a statement after the meeting, IBAN asked the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to be cautious in applying the 2.5% annual levy on broadcasting stations.
The association urged NBC to work with relevant stakeholders to help develop the broadcasting sector.
IBAN decided to request a meeting with the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, and the DG of NBC to discuss issues, especially the Digital Switch Over (DSO) and set-top box manufacturers.
IBAN also expressed serious concerns about the 2.5% levy imposed by NBC, asking the commission to reconsider implementing this levy during these tough times.
IBAN emphasized its commitment to protecting its members and called for an immediate review of the NBC Code by all stakeholders.
Additionally, IBAN decided to engage with the DG NBC about the wider effects of recent regulations, especially considering the country’s current economic challenges, which many see as double taxation.
