Call for Entries: 18th Abuja International Film Festival

The 18th Abuja International Film Festival was established in 2004 in order to fill a gap in the Nigerian Film Festival circuit which was non existent then, but over the years that noble intention has metamorphosed into a global film festival and the longest running in Anglophone west Africa which has clearly shown that it was about much more than filling a gap but creating a platform for the industry.

The international breakthrough came rapidly on the 3rd festival in 2006 when films were screened from 45 countries.

One of its main goals is to develop, present and explore the cultural identity of the nollywood audiovisual sector helping it to give more experts to the market. The film festival aims to give ground to young filmmakers who want are looking platforms to express their creative expertise.

The number of entries in features, shots, documentaries, animations and experimental category is gradually increasing, in 2020 amidst the COVID19 pandemic, the film festival had 1062 films with over 100 slected by the pre-jury of which 70 can make it to the competition. Beside the competition and info campaign AIFF features a host of festival screenings, selections from film Schools, film markets, film-, and all-art workshops in the program.

Open to the public, the 18th Abuja International Film festival will be held this year from 1st to 5th November 2021 in the capital city of Abuja Nigeria.

The deadline for entries is 20th August 2021.
