Buhari seeks Senate Confirmation of Tanko as Substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Justice Mohammed Tanko to be confirmed as substantive Chief Justice of the Federation.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, read Buhari’s letter seeking senate’s confirmation of Justice Tanko in plenary today.

This is coming about six months after the Bauchi State-born Tanko was appointed Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, following the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Justice Tanko was until his appointment, the second most ranking Justice of the Supreme Court.
