Christmas: Obasanjo, Amosun, cleric preach unity, religious tolerance

A former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and Secretary General, Anglican Communion Worldwide, Archbishop Josiah Atkins Idowu-Fearon, have called on Nigerians to continue to promote unity and religious harmony in the country.

They said this on Thursday in their separate messages during the Christmas carol service and service of nine lessons organised by the Ogun State Government held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.

They had all submiitted that it was in the atmosphere of peace that the country could experience development.

The former president in his goodwill message urged Nigerians to always see themselves as one regardless of their religion or political affiliation, adding that they must continue to demonstrate the spirit of oneness.

He said, “I believe if we all, as Christians and Muslims internalise the teachings of the holy words in the Bible and the Quran, we will have a better community, better state and a better nation.”

Amosun, in his own remarks, called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the country and the leadership at all levels.

The governor noted that it had been prayers  that had sustained Nigeria till today and urged Nigerians, especially leaders to remain committed to the development of the nation.

He said, “I want to commend the people of the state for their continued support for our adminitration. It has been your prayers that has continued to help us in what we have achieved so far.

“Continue to pray for us so that we can achieve all other lofty dreams for the state.”

In his Christmas message, the Secretary General of Anglican Communion Worldwide, Archbishop Idowu-Fearon urged leaders in the country to be just and fear God at all times.
