Senate President Godswill Akpabio has acknowledged that Nigerians are facing tough economic conditions due to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms. Speaking on Tuesday as the Senate resumed from its annual recess, Akpabio expressed sympathy for the citizens grappling with inflation, high living costs, and market instability.
He assured Nigerians that the National Assembly is aware of their struggles but emphasized that the current economic challenges are not the fault of the Tinubu administration. “Our fellow citizens are dealing with rising inflation and unpredictable markets,” Akpabio said, adding that these reforms are necessary to fix the economic problems inherited in 2023.
Akpabio praised President Tinubu’s bold economic reforms, noting that positive results are already visible, particularly in agriculture and infrastructure. However, he recognized that many challenges remain, urging the Senate to respond with urgency and compassion to the nation’s economic difficulties.
He also highlighted the importance of prioritizing national security, stating that the Senate will work to ensure that Nigerians can live without fear of insecurity. He noted that development cannot take place if insecurity remains a problem in parts of the country.
