Bauchi University VC Denies Links to Fraudulent Facebook Account Scams

The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi has disassociated itself from a fraudulent Facebook account falsely bearing the name of its Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya.

In a statement released on Monday by the university’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Zailani Bappa, it was revealed that the fake account was created to scam unsuspecting individuals.

“The attention of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Usman Kunya, was brought to this matter by a concerned citizen, who shared a screenshot of a suspicious transaction. The scammer attempted to convince the individual to send a large sum of money, under the pretense of securing a contract,” the statement said.

The university emphasized that Professor Kunya would never conduct official business or request money through social media. Furthermore, the Acting Vice-Chancellor does not own or operate a Facebook account, nor has he authorized anyone to do so on his behalf.

The public has been urged to be cautious and avoid falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.
