Many Trapped in Onitsha Building Collapse

A building under construction near the Ochanja market in Onitsha, Anambra State, collapsed on Monday evening, trapping an unknown number of people inside. The building, intended to serve as a market upon completion, caved in around 8 pm, with some workers still inside.

The incident caused panic in the area, prompting passersby and residents to attempt rescuing those trapped in the rubble. As of the latest update on Tuesday, one person was feared dead and two others injured to varying degrees.

Rescue operations are ongoing, though details of the incident remain limited. Efforts to reach the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, for confirmation were unsuccessful as he did not respond to inquiries at the time of reporting.
