[JUST IN]  Court Denies Fubara’s Loyalists Bail

The bail applications filed by supporters of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, implicated in the state assembly explosion, have been dismissed by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The defendants, namely Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod, faced terrorism-related charges and allegations of killing police officers in connection with the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in October 2023.

The explosion occurred on October 30, 2023, amid reported attempts by some lawmakers to impeach Governor Fubara. Suspected arsonists allegedly threw an explosive into the assembly complex at around 9:25 pm, leading to a fire.

Despite citing health conditions, the first to third defendants applied for bail. However, in Abuja on Monday, Justice Bolaji Olajuwon rejected the bail applications. She emphasized that the defendants faced a capital offence involving terrorism and alleged murder.

Justice Olajuwon stated that there was no evidence indicating that the correctional center facilities could not address the health needs of the defendants. She highlighted that the available evidence demonstrated the capability and adequacy of the health center’s experts to manage the defendants’ conditions.

The case has been adjourned until February 8, 2024, for further proceedings.
