A commercial vehicle from Watt Market, heading to 8 Miles got exploded along Murtala Mohammed Highway by Diamond Junction at about 7pm on Thursday.
An eyewitness, Patricia Illam, said the commercial vehicle started burning when the driver of the taxi dropped a passenger and the passenger noticed and alerted the driver about fire under the taxi. Everyone highlighted from the vehicle and took to their heels with their belongings as the
driver tried opening the burnet but could not.
All effort made by the driver and passer by to quench the fire with sand and fire extinguisher were abortive leaving the driver to his fate.
If the passenger had not seen the fire early and informed the driver, maybe other passengers in the vehicle would have been affected or got burnt.
This is not the first time a car is being burnt beyond recognition in Calabar. Recall that some months ago, a car got burnt at Atimbo round about claiming three lives.
As at the time of filing the report, no one got burnt, no casualty, just the burnt car.
