The 18th Edition of the Cross River Basin Development Authority (CRBDA) Super Cup Competition, 2024, marked a significant milestone for the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command, Football Club. For the first time, the Command’s Football Club participated in the prestigious tournament, which featured a total of twenty-five teams.
The Police Football Club demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition, successfully advancing through the group stages. On the 11th of August, 2024, the team faced off against Dream Pillars FC in the finals of the tournament. With a stellar performance, the Police Football Club emerged victorious, claiming the championship title.
A standout player during the tournament was the team’s goalkeeper, F/No 530272 PC Abdul Peter, who is attached to the Ikpai Omin Division of the Command. His outstanding performance did not go unnoticed, earning him an automatic invitation on probation for the junior cadre—a significant recognition of his talent and potential.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement, the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Gyogon A. Grimah, PSC, FCAI, along with the Command Management Team, received the victorious team in his office on the 19th of August, 2024. During the reception, the Commissioner expressed his gratitude and extended a message of goodwill to the team for their hard work and dedication.
The highlight of the reception was the presentation of the tournament trophy to the Commissioner of Police by the team’s coach, ASP Henry Ekpenyong, who also serves as the Command Officer in Charge of Sports (O/C Sports). The event was marked by a sense of pride and accomplishment, as the Police Football Club brought honor to the Command through their success in the competition.
This victory not only showcases the athletic prowess of the Nigeria Police Force, Cross River State Command, but also strengthens the morale of the officers and the community they serve. The Command looks forward to further successes in future competitions, building on this historic achievement.
