Washington, D.C. – Today, on the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United States reaffirmed its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights worldwide.

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken emphasized the importance of upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms, stating that these principles are the foundation of the United States. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by human rights defenders globally, who often face threats and persecution in their pursuit of justice.

The United States has consistently advocated for human rights on the international stage, condemning authoritarian regimes and supporting democratic movements. The country continues to work with international partners to address human rights abuses, promote accountability, and advance human rights causes worldwide.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948, is a landmark document outlining fundamental human rights and freedoms. The United States pledges to uphold these principles and work towards a future where human rights are respected and protected for all.
