UNICAL Alumni President lauds VC on infrastructural development

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has received commendation from the University’s Alumni body for her marvelous infrastructural development on campus.

The VC got the commendation when she received in audience the National Security Council (NSC) of the Varsity alumni under the able leadership of Prof. Yakubu Ochefu as President.

The visit which was at the instance of the association’s forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) to discuss the transition of its executive, alumni first home coming, light attraction, and other important issues bordering on the Association and the University was well attended by proud alumni, most of whom are industry heads and right standing members of the society.

Speaking during the session on behalf of Council, the President, Prof. Ochefu thanked the Vice-Chancellor for her administration’s giant stride, especially in the area of gender equality, protection of the girl child, financial probity and transparency, transcript credibility and ongoing digitization process, as well as infrastructural revamp, introduction of more courses and programs, and ongoing accreditation, describing her as a woman that bears masculine energy and excellent administrative acumen.

The VC in her response, appreciated Council leadership for finding the time to visit management ahead of the AGM, and applauded the body for its continuous support for the University, and seized the opportunity to inform body of Varsity Distance Learning program, Certificate Upgrade program, and Youth Friendly Center that are all creations of her administration, with Unical being the first to institutionalize the programs in Universities in the South South geopolitical zone of the Country.

Also, the body was informed of 2026 NUGA hosting right that has been won by the Institution, and measures put in place to guarantee students academic security and certificate confidence.
