Thunder Eliminate Suns From Playoff Contention

The Phoenix Suns’ postseason aspirations were extinguished following a 125-112 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 9, 2025. This loss, their eighth consecutive, officially eliminated the Suns from playoff contention, marking their first absence from the postseason since 2020.

Despite boasting the highest payroll in NBA history, the Suns concluded the season with a 35-45 record. The team’s performance fell short of expectations, leading to a disappointing finish.

In the game against the Thunder, Jalen Williams led Oklahoma City with 33 points. The Thunder secured the best record in the NBA this season and clinched home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Devin Booker, reflecting on the Suns’ underwhelming season, acknowledged the team’s shortcomings. He emphasized the need for introspection and improvement moving forward.

The Suns will now look ahead to the offseason, aiming to address the issues that led to this season’s disappointing outcome and to reestablish themselves as contenders in the Western Conference.
