In an operation carried out in the early hours of Monday, the Nigeria Police Force captured a notorious armed robbery gang that had been causing havoc in parts of Adamawa State and the Republic of Cameroon.
According to police reports, the gang, comprising two Cameroonians and two Nigerians, was responsible for the raid on the residence of Muhammed Sadiq Wali, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Environment, on Sunday. They made away with valuable items, including a Toyota Hilux van.
The criminals broke into the commissioner’s home around 11:00 pm on Sunday, following the Nigerian Super Eagles’ loss to Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Confirming the arrests, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the police spokesperson in the state, stated that all four members of the gang had been apprehended, and stolen property, including cash, a pistol, and a vehicle, had been recovered.
Nguroje remarked, “The Adamawa State Police Command’s operational strategy to combat criminal activities, such as armed robbery, ‘Shilla Boys’ gangsterism, and kidnapping, in the state capital has yielded positive results with the arrest of a syndicate of four individuals.”
He identified the suspects as Mustapha Muhammed, 47, residing in lelewalji, Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State; Isha Adamu, 55, from Tudun Wada, Sokoto State; Salihu Buhar, 38, from Garoua, Cameroon Republic; and Abdullahi Abubakar, 35, also from Garoua, Cameroon Republic.
“The suspects were apprehended on 12/2/2024 by a joint team of police operatives from Girei Divisional Police Headquarters after carrying out the attack on the residence of Hon. Muhammed Sadiq Wali, the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Environment, Adamawa State, and robbing him of his Toyota Hilux and other valuables,” Nguroje stated.
He further noted, “Remarkably, all the items stolen from the victim’s residence were recovered. The suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the existing laws.”
