The agitator for the Yoruba Nation, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has reportedly been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Igboho, according to sources was arrested on Monday night at an airport in Cotonou by the security forces in the Benin Republic while trying to flee to Germany.
“He was arrested in Cotonou while he tried to travel out on Monday night. His destination was Germany. The security forces in Benin Republic should repatriate him to Nigeria on Tuesday,” The source said.
Although his arrest is yet to be confirmed by the security agents in the country, a well-known historian and leader of the Umbrella Body of Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Professor Banji Akintoye, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
“I received last night the troubling information that Chief Sunday Adeyemo fondly called Igboho had been arrested at the Cotonou Airport,” Akintoye said.
Igboho earlier was asked by the Department of State Services (DSS) to hand himself over to security officials and while confirming a manhunt for Yoruba nation agitation. This was after his residence in Ibadan, Oyo state capital was invaded by security agents.
Igboho was also declared wanted by the security agents for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he has since denied.
