Snapchat has introduced a new watchOS application, enabling Apple Watch owners to interact with the platform directly from their wrists. This addition means Snapchat is now accessible across mobile devices, the web, tablets, and the Apple Watch.

Through the watchOS app, users can see incoming messages and respond using the on-screen keyboard, Scribble input, voice dictation, or even an emoji. Snap highlights that the app makes it easier to send quick confirmations—such as letting a friend know “I’m here” when meeting up—or to fire off a brief reply while on the move, like during a run.
Previously, Apple Watch users could only receive Snapchat notifications forwarded from their iPhone; there was no way to send a reply. Now, with the dedicated app, that limitation has been removed.
In a blog post announcing the rollout, Snap noted that its community increasingly engages with the service across multiple devices, including tablets and the web. The company sees this watchOS release as a step toward making Snapchat available on every device people use, wearables included.
This marks a notable change in Snapchat’s approach. Years ago, CEO Evan Spiegel expressed skepticism about fitting Snapchat onto the Apple Watch screen, suggesting users would rather view snaps on their phones. The new app, however, is designed solely for messaging—letting users quickly reply to friends—rather than for viewing photos or videos.
By launching a full-featured watchOS application, Snapchat has moved ahead of competitors like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp, which have yet to offer similar functionality on the Apple Watch.
