Red Cross Society In Cross River State Introduces First Aid At Work, A Training For Media Houses

The Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Cross River State chapter as part of strengthening and signage of collaboration with media houses has in place a program titled first aid at work.
This was revealed on Friday by the Branch Coordinator of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Cross River State Branch, Mr. Elias Beenak. The program is focused on the training staff of media houses. And also equipping them with basic skills which will enable them to respond to emergencies and give self-help when necessary.
He also added that apart from the role of the media to educate, inform and entertain society, they are also members of the fourth estate of the realm and necessary for them to have some level of safety around them and need qualified health care personnel among themselves.
He further revealed the interest of the organisation to train media practitioners on humanitarian reporting.
Reacting, the CEO of FAD Media group, Mr. Fidelis Duker appreciated the representatives of the Red Cross Society for the initiative, adding that it is important for media practitioners to learn the basics of first aid so that rather than reporting incidents only, they can also save lives.
Mr. Duker also added that it is necessary to sensitise the public of the need to save lives first which incidents occur and not try to snap and share on social media which is common in our society today.
“It is a good idea you have presented and we are ready to partner with you,” he added while pointing out the need for sustainability.

Also in attendance were The Executive Director Marketing, FAD Media Group, Mrs. Temitope Duker, the Gender and Youth Adviser, Calabar Municipality Division, Juliet David Okon, Divisional Communication Coordinator, Calabar South Division of Red Cross Society, Udida Odet.
