Real Madrid is reportedly exploring the possibility of compensating Liverpool to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold’s services in time for the Club World Cup, which commences on June 18, 2025. Although Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool officially expires on June 30, Real Madrid aims to have him available for their opening match against Al Hilal on June 18 in Miami.
To facilitate this, Real Madrid may negotiate an early release by offering a fee to Liverpool, allowing Alexander-Arnold to join before his contract concludes. FIFA has sanctioned special transfer windows for Club World Cup participants: a primary window from June 1-10 and an in-tournament window between June 27 and July 3, during which clubs can register up to two additional players.
This development follows Real Madrid’s earlier attempt in December 2024 to acquire Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window, which Liverpool declined, prioritizing their Premier League title ambitions. As of now, Alexander-Arnold has not publicly indicated a desire to leave Liverpool, and negotiations regarding his future remain ongoing.
