Over 1,000 Palestinians Killed in Gaza Following Ceasefire Breakdown

At least 80 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across Gaza in the last 48 hours, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. This brings the total death toll since Israel resumed its offensive after breaking the ceasefire on March 18 to 1,001.

In a statement, the Israeli military has ordered residents of southern Gaza’s Rafah to evacuate to the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis, ahead of “intense combat operations.” However, the designated “safe zone” remains without basic necessities and has been repeatedly targeted during the conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted that for a ceasefire to reach its “final stage,” Hamas must surrender its weapons, expel its leaders, and hand over control of Gaza’s security to Israel.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reports at least 50,357 Palestinians have been confirmed dead, with over 114,400 wounded since the beginning of the conflict. Earlier reports from Gaza’s Government Media Office placed the death toll at over 61,700, with many others still unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble.

The death toll in Israel from the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks stands at 1,139, with more than 200 individuals taken captive.
