The Labour Party in Cross River State is standing firm amidst internal crisis, with the state chairman, Patriarch Ogar Osim, describing the exit of some members as a “blessing in disguise” for the party.
In an interview with People’s Opinion, a widely listened political show on FADFM radio, Calabar, via phone-in session, Osim said the party will take this opportunity to reorganize and strengthen itself.
“The party will sit and organize itself,” he said.
Osim attributed the party’s current challenges to the leadership style of Governor Otti, who he claimed got the party’s platform through “gold” but refused to acknowledge the party’s structure after winning elections. “He sits in his Office in Abia State to direct to announce the dissolution of the party from National to Ward level” he added.
The chairman also accused Governor Otti of being a “tormenting problem” for the party and called on him to learn party relationship from Gov. Otu of Cross River State.
When asked about the exit of Dansuki from the party, Osim said he received the letter of his resignation and held no grudge against him.
“I thank Dansuki for his contributions while in LP. It was a wonderful experience I will not forget in a hurry. I wish him well in his political future. As Cross Riverians, we shall continue to collaborate where necessary to deliver the dividend of democracy to our people”. He added.
As the party navigates this crisis, Osim remains optimistic about the party future prospects. “The exit of some members is a blessing to the party,” he reiterated.
The development is likely to have implications for the party’s performance in future elections and its overall direction in Cross River State.
