Manchester United Miss Out on Signing Geovany Quenda as Chelsea Secure Deal

Manchester United have been outmaneuvered by Chelsea in the pursuit of Sporting CP’s 17-year-old sensation, Geovany Quenda. Despite United’s extensive interest, Chelsea secured a £42 million agreement for the winger, who will remain at Sporting for the 2025-26 season before joining the Blues in July 2026.

Quenda, who rose through Sporting’s ranks under former manager Ruben Amorim—now at Manchester United—was anticipated to reunite with his mentor at Old Trafford. However, Chelsea’s decisive approach, including a “secret blitz” to finalize the deal, ensured the winger’s commitment to Stamford Bridge.

United’s reluctance to meet Sporting’s valuation and their preference for an immediate transfer, contrasting with Sporting’s desire to retain Quenda for an additional year, contributed to the collapse of the deal. Additionally, United’s recent acquisition of Patrick Dorgu influenced their transfer priorities, leading to a more informal approach toward Quenda.

This development underscores the complexities of high-profile transfers and highlights the need for decisive action in securing emerging talents.
