Liverpool Secure £30m Signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool FC have officially announced the acquisition of Dutch right-back Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen for £30 million, marking the first signing under new manager Arne Slot. The 24-year-old defender has agreed to a five-year contract with the Premier League champions.

Frimpong’s transfer fee will be paid in three annual instalments, with the initial payment reportedly offset by the £10 million sale of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. Frimpong is expected to don the number 30 shirt at Anfield.

Having played a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s historic 2023–24 Bundesliga title win, Frimpong contributed significantly to their near-unbeaten treble-winning campaign under Xabi Alonso. Over his tenure at Leverkusen, he amassed 23 goals in 133 appearances.

Frimpong’s versatility allows him to operate as a right-back, wing-back, or right winger, offering Liverpool tactical flexibility. His homegrown status, stemming from his development at Manchester City’s academy, provides additional squad registration advantages.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Frimpong stated, “I’m thrilled to join Liverpool and can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success.” He will compete for the right-back position alongside 21-year-old Conor Bradley.

Liverpool’s interest in strengthening their squad continues, with reports indicating a £109 million bid for Frimpong’s former teammate, Florian Wirtz.

Frimpong’s arrival signifies a strategic move by Liverpool to maintain their competitive edge in domestic and European competitions.
