Lagos Explosion Kills 15, Injured 60 And Destroy Buildings in Abule Odo of Lagos State.

A great blast has reportedly rocked the Abule Ado area of Lagos, sparking a massive blaze that has destroyed nearby buildings including Bethlehem Girls College in Lagos state.

Plumes of smoke have been seen rising into the sky, although it was reportedly being been cordoned off.

An eyewitness disclosed that a tipper offloading sand caught fire, which gradually extended to a nearby pipeline, thereby, triggering the blast.

According to the director general of LASEMA Dr Femi Osanyintolu, the pipeline had earlier been vandalized by some unknown persons.

The fire and the explosion had razed many houses down and damaged buildings around the area.

According to the Lagos State Fire Service, there are buildings on fire in Ado Soba, Abule-Ado, and Amuwo-Odo.

The chairman of the local government area, Mr. Valentine Buraimoh told disclosed to us that some children have been rescued from the collapsed school building. Also, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has stated that at least 15 corpses, including a family of four, had been recovered from the scene of Sundays pipeline explosion in Abule Ado area of Lagos.  

The agency further stated that at least 60 injured students of Bethlehem Girls College had been taken to the Nigerian Navy Hospital in Ojo Cantonment for treatment.

The Acting Coordinator of NEMA in Lagos, Ibrahim Farinloye, who said that the victims, a couple and their two sons, were caught by the explosion on their way to church at about 9:00am on Sunday. 

The fire was eventually extinguished at 3:30 p.m. through the combined efforts of officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and Nigerian Navy Fire Tender.
