Headies Award 2025

The 17th edition of the Headies award which was held on sunday 27th April 2025, showcased remarkable achievements across the African music scene at the Landmark Events Centre in Victoria Island, with notable winners including Odumodublvck and Juma Jux, as well as a posthumous recognition for late singer, Mohbad.

Juma Jux was announced Best East African Artist, edging out fellow Tanzanian star, Diamond Platnumz in the category . Mohbad posthumously won two major awards: Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year and the Viewer’s Choice award for his collaboration with Chike on the song “Egwu”. Speaking gracefully and passionately as she took the stage to celebrate her husband’s accomplishments, Omowunmi emphasized that she does not consider Mohbad to be her “late husband” because, in her opinion, he lives on, particularly through their young son Liam.

Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay formerly known as Annie Idibia, captured attention at the event with her bold reintroduction to the public. During her presentation, the actress and mother of two made a statement playfully correcting herself and welcoming herself to the single ladies squad, she said, “Annie Idi—oh, sorry, Annie Macaulay. Hey, I am single”.

The event also celebrated influential figures in music and culture with Special Recognition Awards for Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Alex Okosi, and Amaju Pinnick.

This year marks a unique double edition of the awards, with the 18th edition scheduled for December to compensate for the 2024 absence.
