Marco Pašalić’s journey to professional football is a testament to resilience and determination. Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, to Croatian parents who fled the Yugoslav Wars, Pašalić was instilled with a strong work ethic from an early age. While honing his skills in the academies of Hoffenheim, Karlsruhe, and Stuttgart, he supplemented his income by working in construction. Reflecting on that period, Pašalić recalled, “The hardest part was driving debris away in 35-degree heat… In the end, the most important thing was that we had bread on the table.”
His perseverance paid off when he joined Borussia Dortmund, where he primarily featured for the reserve team but made two senior appearances. A subsequent move to HNK Rijeka in Croatia saw him amass 16 goals and nine assists in 68 matches. His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Croatian national team, marking a significant milestone in his career.
In February 2025, Pašalić embarked on a new chapter by signing with Major League Soccer’s Orlando City SC as a Designated Player on a three-year contract. Expressing his enthusiasm, he stated, “I want to come here to take the next step… I play with heart and I am a fighter on the field.” Orlando City’s general manager, Luiz Muzzi, praised Pašalić’s attacking prowess and competitive spirit, highlighting his potential impact on the team.
Pašalić’s transition from construction work to international football underscores his unwavering dedication and passion for the sport. As he integrates into Orlando City, fans and teammates alike anticipate the dynamic energy and skill he brings to the field.
