A team of strategists from Cross River’s number one best radio station FAD 93.1 FM on Thursday 14th November, 2024 took the campaign against bullying to secondary school in Calabar metropolis.
The campaign was led by the Head of News and Current Affairs, Mrs Efa Sunday and other members of the City Pulse Team where they talked about the impact of bullying amongst secondary school students.
Bullying according to NCDC is defined as a form of youth violence involving unwanted aggressive behaviour from a bully (an individual or a group.)
At the heart of bullying is a power balance – whether perceived or actual – of social status, wealth, physical strength or size. Repeated effects of bullying can lead to social isolation, withdrawal from peers, amnesia, loss of things that used to give pleasure, introvertedness, dislike for or skipping school or such unhealthy environments and in some extreme cases death.
My colleague and I on behalf of Fadfmcalabar took this “Anti-bullying” campaign to NYSC Demonstration Secondary School, Murtala Muhammed Highway, Calabar.
We made the pupils know what bullying is, the difference between bullying and discipline, how to handle bullies (for those that are been bullied), and the various kinds of bullying (physical, verbal, social, cyber, and emotional).
Most importantly, we emphasized the need to always speak up. Those experiencing or have experienced bully in any form need to confide in a loved one or a senior confidant. Bystanders were also encouraged to speak up for the bullied when they witnessed any form of bully.
This campaign aims to create resounding awareness about bullying and the damage it can do to a human, and Fadfm Calabar was at the forefront of this mindset reorientation campaign.
We join the world to say #NoToBully and Yes we #ChooseRespect.
