The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, has taken disciplinary action against two key members of his cabinet. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma, has been suspended for three months, while the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori, faces an indefinite suspension.
The decision was made during a State Executive Council meeting held on Monday in Abakaliki, the state capital. A statement from the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, cited “gross misconduct and dereliction of duties” as reasons for the suspensions.
Reports indicate the Health Ministry’s suspension follows allegations of theft involving government property. Six officials were reportedly caught diverting materials during a surprise visit by Governor Nwifuru to the ministry on Saturday night.
For the Housing and Urban Development commissioner, poor performance, including mismanagement of the Amaeze Housing Scheme in Ishielu Local Government Area, led to his indefinite suspension.
Authorities have initiated investigations, and the arrested officials face prosecution.
