Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has made a significant addition to their squad by signing 19-year-old midfielder Désiré Doué from Rennes for a reported fee of €50 million, potentially rising to €60 million with bonuses. Doué has committed to a five-year contract, keeping him at the club until 2029.
Doué’s impressive performances at Rennes attracted interest from top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea. Despite Bayern’s substantial offer, Doué chose PSG, influenced by the club’s vision and the opportunity to continue his development in France.
Known for his versatility, Doué can operate as an attacking midfielder, winger, or second striker. In the previous season, he made 43 appearances across all competitions, scoring four goals and providing six assists. His creativity and dribbling skills were evident, completing 64 successful dribbles and creating 31 chances, second only to Benjamin Bourigeaud at Rennes.
Doué represented France’s under-23 team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, contributing to the team’s silver medal finish under coach Thierry Henry.
PSG President Nasser al-Khelaifi praised Doué as “one of the most exciting young stars in France and Europe.” With the departure of key players like Kylian Mbappé, PSG is focusing on building a dynamic and youthful squad, with Doué expected to play a pivotal role in this new era.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Doué stated, “I’m delighted to be joining Paris Saint-Germain. It’s a dream come true.” His arrival aligns with PSG’s strategy to integrate young talents into their squad, aiming for both domestic and European success.
As PSG embarks on this ambitious project, all eyes will be on Désiré Doué to see how he contributes to the club’s pursuit of glory and cements his status as France’s next footballing sensation.
