Apple launches new MacBook Air with M4 chip

By: Amboni

Apple recently unveiled a new MacBook Air, featuring enhanced performance with the new M4 chip, part of the M-series lineup, while retaining the familiar design. The MacBook Air is available in two sizes: 13-inch and 15-inch, with prices starting at $999 for the 13-inch model, which is a $100 reduction from the previous starting price of $1,099. Pre-orders begin today, with shipments expected to start on March 12.

The base model retains 16GB of RAM, the same as last year’s version, meeting the minimum requirements for Apple Intelligence. For those needing more memory, the MacBook Air can be upgraded to 32GB at the time of purchase.

Apple has upgraded the two Thunderbolt 3 ports to Thunderbolt 4, allowing users to connect up to two external displays while keeping the built-in screen active. The laptop also includes a MagSafe 3 charging port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The webcam now supports Center Stage, a feature that keeps the speaker centered in the frame during calls.

In addition to the traditional colors (midnight, starlight, and silver), the MacBook Air is now available in a new sky blue shade. While the MacBook Air is lighter and more affordable than the MacBook Pro, it lacks some features, such as the Pro’s longer battery life and superior mini-LED display with higher pixel density.

Despite these trade-offs, the MacBook Air continues to be a top seller, offering a solid balance of performance and price. While the M4 update doesn’t introduce drastic changes, it is expected to continue strong sales, much like the previous M3 model.
