The community Dapchi rose to global prominence on February 19, 2018 when the town was attacked by insurgents, who kidnapped 110 schoolgirls from their hostels at Government Girls Science and Technical College.
Although the girls were later released after a deal with the Nigerian Government but one of them, Leah Sharibu, was held back because she refused to convert from Christianity to Islam.
Boko Haram fighters also attacked the town and killed seven policemen in March, 2020.
The recent attack on Dapchi, Yobe State on Monday 18th May, 2020
has been described by the residents of the community as the biggest so far carried
out by Boko Haram militants.
The palace of Dapchi District Head and the General Hospital was burnt down by the insurgents during the attack.
According to an eyewitness, it was disclosed that when the hospital was set ablaze, many patients receiving treatment ran for their lives. As pathetic as it seems, it was better than being burnt alive in the hospital.
Many persons, since after the attack have been reported missing while families have been separated and in disarray.
