Ronaldo has explained his latest gesture towards Atletico Madrid fans after Juventus drew 2-2 in their Champions League opener.
The Portuguese has a bitter relationship with Atletico fans from his time at Real Madrid and mocked them during last season’s last 16 tie, mimicking Diego Simeone’s ‘cojones’ gesture after inspiring the Italians to a remarkable 3-0 comeback victory to advance.
And after receiving a hot reception again at the Wanda Metropolitano, Ronaldo reacted towards the end of the match after almost winning the game for the Old Lady.
Stefan Savic and Hector Herrera cancelled out Juan Cuadrado and Blaise Matuidi’s goals as Maurizio Sarri’s side coughed up a two-goal lead.
But Ronaldo’s stunning dribble worked an opportunity to win the match for the visitors, only for his shot to fizz inches wide of the post.
nd after going so close, Ronaldo turned to the stands, pinching his fingers together in an upwards motion.
The 34-year-old clarified the significance of the gesture afterwards, simply claiming Atletico must ”learn, you have to learn”.
Ronaldo will hope to return to scoring ways against Verona this weekend.
While his next opportunity to open his Champions League account for the season comes against Bayer Leverkusen on October 1.
